Spoiler:
It’s not a natural disaster. It’s freakin anti-virus software popping up a tiny window at the lower right edge of the screen (that won’t allow the user to click on anything with a mouse) right as the timer to cancel nuclear war reaches 5,4,3,2,1, launch.
Car for your time: (or not. Kinja won’t let me add a photo. So just imagine a nice burnt orange Toyota Crown - Modified with a larger front lip & lowered onto 18" brushed aluminum rims)

Luckily, at last check, the US nuclear weapons systems were running on 1970s computers with 8" floppy drives. Good luck finding a virus scanner to run on those. Of course we have been modernizing, we could be opening ourselves to trouble.

I didn’t say it was happening in the next two decades. Once they upgrade to windows 95 it’s all over. :)
